Sportsbook.com joins Merge Gaming

32 Vegas Casino

It was announced yesterday (Feb. 3rd )that the Sportsbook.com family Jazette Enterprises will be joining the Merge Gaming Network. The move should be done by mid April according to the newsletter from Merge.

As most readers here at Carolina Gambler know, it’s the Merge Gaming network that I have always felt has the best software offered to online poker players. I’ve played at Carbon Poker on the network since the very early days of 2005 when they were still poker.com. The only draw back that I have ever felt the site really had was not a large enough player base.

Unlike other new rooms on Merge Gaming where most of the players are just the same ones that have just moved from one skin to another chasing down bonuses or what ever the case may be, this is a whole different thing. This move will be bringing along with it more players, perhaps several thousand new players to the network.

With this announcement to migrate the online poker gaming activities of Jazette Enterprises to the Merge Gaming platform I forecast a much larger player base will make for larger poker tournaments and promotions for the players. It’s expected all players from sportsbook.com, playersonly.com and superbook.com will be seamlessly transferred over to the Merge Gaming platform by mid April 2010.

A spokesperson Roger Whitaker for Jazette Enterprises, added; “Our goal is to provide our players with the best poker experience possible which is why we decided to make this move. We’re confident that our players will enjoy the ground breaking features, generous loyalty rewards program and improved overall playability that Merge’s poker software provides.”

“With the same dedicated team behind us, players can rest assured that our new poker offering comes with the same steadfast adherence to player protection, security and fairness we have been providing since 1996,” says Whitaker.

I’ll be looking forward to seeing this move take place, and hope that it will be a flawless one. Stay tuned to Carolina Gambler for any further news on this story.

Another poker bust in South Carolina

Your Ad Here

We’ve had another poker bust here in South Carolina. Greenville County Sheriff deputies seized right at $64,000.00 when they received tips about illegal gambling at a residence, $41,000 of it belonging to the owner. Under South Carolina law, the full amount of the money will remain in evidence until the case is heard by a judge, who could then order that it be turned over to the Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies ticketed a total of twenty seven people on charges of unlawful betting at the January 14th raid and are summoned to appear before the court on February 17th.

“This was not considered a friendly game of poker because investigators obtained information that there would be a high-dollar buy-in,” Deputy Matthew Armstrong said. “And this is not common with friendly games.”

Deputy reports say they found poker chips, gambling tables and five video gaming machines, along with what they are calling a “buy-in” list. The video machines are clearly illegal here in the state and only the foolhardy here in SC would not know that..Because of the machines, I don’t think the individuals, especially the owner, have much chance of battling this in court.

Republican Senator Wes Hayes lobbied against video poker machines starting back in 1997 and South Carolina’s Supreme Court made them illegal on July 1, 2000 after a concerted campaign led by churches, certain businesses and politicians.

If you are a citizen that believe in our rights to play poker in the privacy of your own home, please take a minutes time and join the Poker Players Alliance to let your voice be heard today.

Poker Community Reaches Out To Haiti

Ambercoast casino

As most folk know by now, unless they’ve been living under a rock or in a third world country, the small island of Haiti has been devastated by an earthquake with a 7.0 on the rector scale. With thousands upon thousands dead, and buildings laid out like an atomic bomb went off, they are needing all the support they can get.

It’s good to see that the United States and other Countries have pledged support by way of needed funds and goods, and I would not have expected anything less from my Government. Sadly it’s more than I can say about some of the religious nut job leaders like Pat Robertson, who in not so many words made the statement that the Haitian people had made a pact with the devil in the past and only got what they deserved…..

Some good news though is that the poker community has reached out to show full support for Haiti. DoylesRoom, FullTilt, PokerStars and many more of the online poker rooms are holding multiple charity tournaments and matching funds to send some support. Some of the poker affiliate forums members at places like the GPWA.org are scrambling as well to do what they can to help.

Another one of the most recognized names in the industry has shown his support and has made a challenge . BoDog founder Calvin Ayre sent out a personal message to the online gambling industry to help out in Haiti:

“It is a disaster in Haiti. I know they have had a tough go from Mother Nature recently, hurricanes and now this earth quake, I cannot help but be disgusted with the ruling elite that has driven this country down like this while, no doubt, filling their own pockets. That all said the innocents as always are paying a horrendous price for this elite thievery and I think the global online gaming community has a duty to do something.

I have asked my Foundation to send and GBP10,000 to UK based Oxfam (http://www.oxfam.org.uk) to help with Haitian relief efforts. But that’s not all…I also want to challenge the rest of this industry to also contribute to Oxfam to help out in Haiti…and my private foundation will match any proven payment to Oxfam by an online gaming person up to $1,000,000.

Let’s go guys….everyone making money has a duty to help.” Click here for the full story.

Folk, if you can spare a dime, please help the unfortunate people of Haiti. There are numerous organizations that make that an easy task to do. The American Red Cross does an excellent job too and are always among the first to be on the scene. You can reach their site by clicking here.

Or you can visit the new web site that two of our former U.S. Presidents, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, have started over at http://www.ClintonBushHaitiFund.org/ and rest assured that your donation will be well spent as well.

SC Poker Players Under Attack !

Ambercoast casino

Once again, South Carolina poker players are under attack !

As you know, last year Circuit Judge Markley Dennis overturned the gambling convictions of five Mount Pleasant poker players because poker is a game of skill and therefore not prohibited under SC law. Instead of abiding by Judge Dennis’ decision, State Attorney General Henry McMaster, who is running for Governor, has engaged in a desperate attempt to uphold the criminalization of playing poker in your own home! To read more about McMaster’s attack on poker, click here.

In contrast, the Greenville News recently editorialized that the state’s gaming laws, particularly with regards to playing home poker, should be clarified, not subject to stricter enforcement, precisely the opposite of Mr. McMaster’s position.

This is a direct attack on our freedoms and we need your help to combat it. Please take 60 seconds to call, email, and tweet Attorney General McMaster:

Call Attorney General McMaster @ (803-734-3970) and let him know:

* You are a voter and a poker player.
* You think it is ridiculous to equate poker players with hardened criminals.
* Poker is a game a skill and is NOT a crime in South Carolina

Our rights as poker players are on the line, so please take action today!

You can also email the Attorney General’s office by taking just 60 seconds of your time to fill out a form by clicking here.

Editors note: This above is a copy of the PPA Action Alert that was sent out by the SC PPA State Director, John Ridgeway .

Bankroll Management

32 Vegas Casino

Bankroll management is a must to being a successful poker player. It’s one the first things I try to tell young beginners at poker to learn, and besides not playing while drunk , I really think it’s the most important thing to learn.

Proper bankroll management is when you play at certain limits to avoid losing all of your money due to a bad run of cards, and every poker player must expect from time to time for that to happen. This is what playing within your bankroll is all about.

Whether you’re playing for fun or a living, a bankroll is necessary. Without it you’re just stuck playing in the freerolls that places like Carbon Poker offers or the play money tables at the online poker rooms… and what sorta fun is that ?

Some of the best Pro’s in the world will tell you to bring no more to than 5% of your bankroll to the table when playing poker and that’s very solid advice for anyone to use. I personally think this works out really well for buying into tournaments.

I’ll be honest about it though, I do like to stretch the limits a bit and play with 10% of my bankroll if it’s at the cash tables for any one session. The advantage to only bringing 10% (or the 5%)of your bankroll to the felt is that you can’t lose more if things go bad.

But whether it’s 5% or the 10% just remember to step down with your buy-ins if you go on a losing streak. Never keep playing above your bankroll and taking that gamble that you’ll win it all back. It’s always better to win it back slowly at smaller stakes than it is to lose it all in one big hand.

Surprise !

32 Vegas Casino

Today I just want to chat about surprises and give a couple sites a plug as a way to say thank you. I for one really like surprises, and last month as well as the start of 2010 I’ve had a few of them.

The first happened a month or so back when I won a dealers theme for www.onlinecasinoblues.com that I really wanted. The contest was hosted by Dealer Dan from the Poker Affiliates Bible. I was stoked about wining it to say the least.

Then I won a little contest for $230 that one of the US friendly casinos management, casino33, was holding. Winning free money is always nice, but I weren’t done for the month as I then won an Ipod over at the GPWA as well.

But the surprises were not done for me yet. I entered another contest over at the Poker Junkie facebook wall. When I entered that one I never really gave it much thought afterwards…well imagine my surprise when I woke up on New Years Day and found I I had won. That one got me $400.00 and a very nice poker set which I’ll be putting in use this coming Saturday.

I’ve not been this lucky in some time by way of entering contests, but it sure has been nice to have won these. It reminds me of that old saying, “You can’t win if you don’t play.”

Yep, I sure do like nice surprises whether it be on or off the felt. Don’t you ? ;-)

Poker Player Killed in Home

32 Vegas Casino

I know it’s a sad state this world is in and has been for a number of years, but most folk still believe that they are safe while in their homes. Or I do anyhow…..and with two dogs and my guns I don’t think too many people would want to try and enter my home uninvited. Not saying I’d kill them, but I’ll surely make them wish they never had entered….. But what if they knock first ?

Over at Rocky Mount North Carolina a man playing poker with some friends was shot and killed by someone who forced his way into a home after knocking on the door. Vernon Foster, a 35-year-old man, was fatally shot by two men who barged in after he opened the door at the house in Rocky Mount around 11 p.m. Friday.

Police say Foster’s poker-playing partner, 22-year-old Brian Edwards ran to a home across the street. The gunmen followed, shooting Edwards and a 61-year-old man in the other home.

As far as I know the cops have not caught the two scum bags, but I hope they do. It’s a real pisser when a man can’t have a little get together and some jerk wants to be an ass, but to start shooting is just being a piece of dirt. They deserve to be caught, tried, and if found guilty put away for life with no chance of seeing the streets again.

If you have any info on this crime, please contact the Rocky Mount Police Department in North Carolina.
